“Enabling Construction with the correct Support.”
Our Engineers understand the construction risks associated with the temporary works stage.
VEDA Associates have a dedicated temporary works team that are employed by National Contractors to act as their temporary works designer. Our temporary works expertise includes; hoardings for highways and rail environments, ground support, façade retention, propping & hydraulic jacking of bridges and structures, pipe jacking & thrust walls, damming & over-pumping, tower and mobile crane lifts, and automated monitoring systems.
We work closely with our client to understand the construction methodology, site and project constraints to develop an innovative temporary work solution that utilises where appropriate the latest techniques, products and machinery.
Being a hands-on consultant, our engineers will attend site at short notice to provide technical advice on reactive works, structural cracking and failure, and ground movement & overall instability. Our experienced staff are also available for checking and commenting on designs produced on site or by subcontractors and external consultants.
In the Rail sector, our engineers are signed off as CRE for Temporary Works, employed as the author of the assurance documents F002/003 or as CAT 3 checker for the temporary works design. Where required we can arrange site investigations i.e. plate bearing, window samples, and cores required to prove the design parameters for the temporary works design.
Our expertise covers:
Ground Works: To existing earthwork assets that includes: cutting and embankment stability, embedded and earth retaining structures. Temporary ground work designs for: piling mats, tower crane foundations, thrust walls, shoring and shafts.
Structural Support: Applies to both refurbishment and new build projects that includes: Falsework & Formwork Propping, Temporary Platforms, Façade Retention, and Needling & Propping for new openings.
Rail & Bridges: Involves the design of Temporary Bridges, Propping & Jacking, Temp Access Gantries, & Assurance documentation.
Other non-complex temporary designs include: Lifting Beams, Masonry Restraint, Fencing, Site Hoarding, and Monitoring systems.

Recent Projects
London Bridge Station - Green's Café
VEDA Associates were appointed Spence as temporary works engineers for the design of the temporary works to support the existing carriage way and pedestrian access to London Bridge, to enable the demolition of the three internal load bearing masonry walls.
The contractors demolition sequence was split into three stages to enable the permanent works to installed within the tight compounds of the site.
At each load bearing masonry wall location, a structural frame was designed using a proprietary support system, which transferred the load onto the temporary reinforced concrete strip foundations.
Horley Station - Scaffold Design
The proposed works involved the replacement of an existing timber glazed wall to an external cycle shelter located on a footbridge, with a new GRP panelling system.
VEDA were employed by Spence to check the Form 002 / 003 for the main temporary works design by others. This also involved checking the capacity of the existing steel bridge beams for the increased loading imposed by the temporary works, as well as the proposed loadings onto the existing platform.
