Limehouse Station Escalators

VEDA has completed the design of a new escalator enclosure and associated constructions works at Limehouse Station.
The plans are part of Dockland’s Light Railway’s (DLR) proposals to increase passenger capacity and ease congestions for travellers interchanging with National Rail services.
VEDA’s role as lead designer was to review and verify the original design, resolve technical questions raised and incorporate changes requested by the contractor and end client.
Acting from a structural and civil engineering perspective, VEDA employed a mechanical and electrical consultant to carry out a similar process on the services design.
As part of the design, VEDA undertook a full structural analysis of the new steel frame, foundation support and new pedestrian access ramp.
VEDA’s Associate Director David Booth led the verification process for the full design which was signed off by DLR and construction is now in progress.
David said the project involved a great deal of co-ordination and collaboration with DLR’s delivery team, the contractor and consultants to ensure the design was fully compliant to DLR standards.
The design verification took VEDA eight weeks to complete and the project is due for completion early in 2018.
