Project Description

VEDA Associates were engaged by Dyer and Butler to carry out the Detailed Design required for the stabilisation of the four existing revetment walls to underbridge structure ECM1 215.

The existing revetment walls were found to be suffering from differencial settlement causing rotation away from the running rails, causing potential for the loss of ballast in the track support zone. The original design proposed within the single option design in the Form F001 document called for the existing walls to be stabilised with a gravity retaining walls formed to the front of the existing structure.

The client employed VEDA Associates to offer an alternative solution to that detailed within the Form F001 to enable the existing walls to be maintained allowing the works to be conducted during Adjacent Lines Open.

The works were designed to construct a cantilevered retaining wall in front of the existing revetments installed in a hit and miss basis as to not uindermine the existing walls. The heal of the cantilevered walls were constructed to as underpinned sections to the existing wall to provide an adequate length base at he crest of the embankment and to minimise the applied ground bearing pressure.
